The Sex and the City Movie

Monday July 23, 2007

Finally, it looks like Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha will get their day on the big screen. After three years of debates, talks and hunches, it looks like New Line Cinema and HBO will start production once and for all this Fall on the Sex and the City movie.

All four of the leading ladies are reported to be signed on for their original roles, as well as Executive Producer Michael Patrick King and creator Darren Star. There is still no word as to which (if any) of the male partners of the characters will return, most notably Mr. Big, played by Law and Order's Chris Noth.

I for one am intrigued and fascinated by this news. I was a huge fan of the series when it came out, if only because of its frankness surrounding love and relationships in our modern-day cities. When the show ended, I felt like I'd lost a friend I could trust with my dating secrets - which in my mind is the mark of a great writing team. I've occasionally wondered how Miranda and Steve made out with his aging mother, if Aidan or Alexander ever came back into Carrie's life, whether or not Smith could actually tempt Samantha into a long-term relationship past the show's ending, and of course, whether or not Mr. Big and Carrie stayed together.

What do you think about the movie? Do you have any predictions for who will be back and what will happen?

I’m a little worried about the movie. After all the trials and hardships, all four of the leading ladies seemed to have found guys that were genuinely good for them. Although I was sorry to see it go, I was also so happy for them all. Now there’s going to be a movie, and you know that movies can’t just be about how happy their lives are!

I’m even more nervous because the guys haven’t been invited - at least, not yet. Mr. Big is an integral component of the show, and was from the beginning on. And the guy that Samantha was dating - he was so amazing for her. It’s hard to imagine that another guy could ever match her. So to have the directors put (so far) all of the emphasis on the girls, and none on the guys, is kind of selling the show and its developments short, in my opinion.

I hope that the movie doesn’t discount or ignore the genuine growth that the girls seemed to have made in their lives.

I love, love, love Sex and the City. I’m collecting the DVDs and watch it on HBO on Demand ALL the time.

Mr. Big has to come back, especially because of the way the series ended (BTW, naming him John was such a cop out).

I’d like to see Smith propose to Samantha, Charlotte and Harry divorced, Miranda and Steve dealing with Debbie having Steve’s child, Carrie with Big together and still unhappy, this time because a new guy is competing for her affection, maybe Aiden.

SJP and KC had some off-screen drama going on for the past few years, but I read they’ve kinda made up. I would like to see a bit of that in the movie.

In response to latoya, why would you want to see anyone divorce? Charlotte finally found a great guy and having find a baby was great! Leave the writing to the writers and wait like the rest of us for the story to unfold.

I love that they are making a movie. I hope to see that everybody is still happy. I would love to see Carrie and Big get married now that he is signed on for the movie. I would also like to see Samantha and Smith get married. A double wedding would be great.

I would like to see Carrie and Big get married as well as Samantha and Smith get married and have a surprise change of life baby on the way. Great!!!
