Hey! You Can't Steal my Tagline!

Wednesday July 25, 2007

There are two things that really irk me when it comes to online dating: blogs that syndicate other blog's content as their own without permission (like Match-Makers, or Date Gazette and Romantic Treasures), and people who steal my tagline.

I work long and hard to create appealing, eye-catching, unusual taglines for my online dating profiles. You know what I mean: those one-liners that appear above your photo when searching through hundreds of likeminded singles in your area. In fact, I enjoy creating new taglines so much that I rarely use the same one for any length of time, and will contact a stranger with nothing else in common if they've used one that piques my word-loving brain.

So when I see someone else's profile spotting my carefully coiffed words, I'm not the happiest single. No, I don't own a copyright, and I guess technically anyone could conceivably come up with the same tagline as I did. Technically. But I'll hazard a guess they didn't.

So for everyone who thinks they'll get away with snagging someone else's opening line without anyone else noticing - don't. Be original and be yourself, and I guarantee you'll get more repsonses than by copying someone else.
