Looking for Love On Your Cell Phone

Friday July 27, 2007

Mobile dating services have become the latest craze in meeting people, with more than 3.6 million users accessing a mobile dating company on their cell phone in March of 2007 alone, according to M:Metrics. The gross majority of these users (81%), according to Mobile Match.com, are under thirty-five years old.

With many similarities to online dating, mobile dating was originally designed as a way to meet people in 'real-time', using the most widely available technology in North America today: cell phones. Users can punch in their geographic location, and within seconds will receive a smorgasboard of singles to choose from.

Unfortunately, mobile dating is still relatively expensive (although a free mobile dating service does exist) and many cell phone companies block users from accessing photos on their mobile networks because of traffic issues. Still, the idea that I could find a date for later tonight while waiting in line to get my passport might be something I'd be willing to try.
