Niche Dating Sites: Helpful or Too Much?

Friday December 28, 2007

I've noticed something interesting in the past few weeks while reviewing niche dating sites such as Single Parents Mingle and Dating for Debtors: for each and every peccadillo or ideology that exists - no matter how unusual or 'out there' - there is a niche dating site catering to that subset of the population.

Niche dating sites in general have grown exponentially in the past several years for a couple of reasons. Many of the larger dating sites (such as Lavalife or Match.com) have become bloated with users, making it difficult for singles in the larger metropolitan areas to find quality matches with similar value systems, hobbies or lifestyles. As well, several recent studies have shown that the average single belongs to at least four different dating sites, with each one serving a different purpose.

But are these niche dating sites really serving a purpose, or are they merely be created with the hopes there are more people out there with similar relationship expectations or needs? Tell me about your experiences with niche dating sites, and whether or not you think they are helping, or hindering, the online dating public.

Match.com is over priced, most matches are farway even tell when you tell match, they don’t pat attention. Thay very seldon anwer your email.I’m on the senior match most matches want younger women. Most men don’t even anwser your emails.I find senior people meet most of the men answer your flirts and a least give you a chance. In the same amount of time on senior people meet I’ve dated about 6 different men and email alot more, match I haven’t had 1 date.,eharmony is the worst,I wouldn’t reommond match.com or e harmony to any one.Senior people meet is alot cheaper and better service.I think match.com and eharmony are rip off.

Chemistry.com was a real dog in my oppinion, Match.com was just ok.

I have had really great luck on Cupid.com, Plentyoffish.com (which is free but the pictures are low quality and are hard to see) and Singlesnet.com (needs some real improvments sent an email to someone and somehow it got sent to someone else. As far as quality goes it just depends on who is where when just like anything else.

Cupid.com has great singles events like speed-dating that are actually fun and not at all uncomfortable.

I haven’t tried the niche dating sites other than a christian one, there was two guys in my area and so not really anything to choose from.
