Study Shows U.S. Online Dating Numbers To Increase

Monday February 25, 2008

Finally, a report has been released that supports what I've been saying.

Jupiter Research's Projected U.S. Online Dating Growth from 2007-2012 states that online dating membership numbers will continue to increase over the next five years.

Personally, I didn't find the report's information new or striking, although several other surveys and dating experts have stated the exact opposite: that online dating is dead. Although it is contrary to many of my peers, I still stand firm that online dating in North America still hasn't reached saturation point yet, and there are still many singles not using online dating sites to find a partner that could be.

Interestingly, readers of this blog seem to agree with me, as evidenced by a poll I posted not that long ago entitled, "Do You Still Use Online Dating Sites To Meet People?" A whopping 46% answered that they only use online dating sites. Yet the dating forum users feel quite differently, as shown in several recent discussions, such as "Has Anyone Tried Online Dating?" and "Scary Stuff", where many of the regular posters state in some form or another that online dating isn't something they would ever try, or try again.

I have to wonder if perhaps some people's hesitancy in using an online dating site is that they don't know how to date online, or perhaps their fears of being taken advantage by an internet dating scam or are too great to make a move. Personally, I can't imagine dating without using some sort of online dating site, especially when living in larger metropolitan areas. What do you think?

Perhaps it may be the fact that dating online presents as equal a disappointment as meeting a person in a bar or other social setting. Could it be that dating just sucks butt in general? Let’s see….most people are entirely selfish, secretive, generally they are liars and cheaters….oh yes, not to mention, just looking to get their rocks off…not that I disagree with this behavior, in all honesty I may partake…..however, at least I am honest about it. In short, dating online is still a meat-market, equivalent to going to a gym or bar.

There is nothing wonderful about dating online…..if you placed Mac N Cheese in a fancy dish, is it still not Mac N Cheese?
