Using Pickup Lines

Wednesday April 2, 2008

For years I believed pickup lines to be appropriate only for the smarmiest among us. Yet as I matured and had to do a bit of pursuing of my own, I came to realize that most singles will need to use a pickup line at least once in a while while in the meeting people phase of the dating game.

In a way, pickup lines aren't much more than conversation starters (see: How To Start a Conversation), although their intent is a tad more specialized. Pickup lines are supposed to both show and generate interest, while creating an "in" with which to get a phone number or a date. But they don't need to be cheesy, smarmy, lecherous or single-minded in their intent or delivery. Rather, the best pickup lines are sincere questions or comments that draw the pursued to the pursuer naturally, without feeling like the "What's your sign, baby?" of yesteryear. (see: 6 Great Pickup Lines For Men or Women)

Do you use pickup lines? If so, what has worked (or tanked) for you? Has someone used a great pickup line on you that you'd like to share?
