Break Up Books

Thursday July 3, 2008

I've been reading a couple of break up books lately, more so because they've landed on my desk than anything -- although as I read them I realize that the astute advice held within might be useful to readers of this site as well. Books like How To Survive the Loss of a Love (Compare Prices) and Its Called a Breakup Because Its Broken (Compare Prices). Which, incidentally, are more similar than they sound, just differing in tone rather than content.

What interests me a bit more however is the whole 'get back your ex' phenomena, whose information is a bit more challenging to find. I've read Cucan Pemo's 'Bring Back the Love of Your Life' (an eBook), and I'm working on Meet Your Sweet's '2nd Chance: How To Win Back the Love of Your Ex', both of which were recommended by readers. What fascinates me the most about these kinds of books is that (a) their guidelines remind me a lot of dating prep content, and (b) how much serious work is suggested by the authors. Meaning: I have to wonder how many singles pining for their ex's would have been better off investing this same time and energy into a new relationship (or even meeting someone new) rather than fixing something that might just be broken.

But you tell me: what do you think? Have you used a 'get back your ex' eBook? Were the truisms shared successful in helping you realize your dream, or did you eventually decide to move on?
