According to a poll conducted by a UK-based dating site, 48% of 21-and-under's have dumped a significant other using a social networking site such as Facebook or Twitter, while 18% of those aged 22-30 admitted having done the same thing. And of all the users who participated, a whopping 95% said they'd used Facebook or MySpace to check out their ex's new partner.
I personally find these statistics fascinating, as I've been witness to many a Facebook relationship in the year or so that I've been an active member. For instance, a long-single friend created a flurry of activity when he changed his profile to stating he was 'in a relationship' with another Facebook member, while others have shared their very sudden but happy engagements via the site. And not so recently another friend of mine was dumped unceremoniously, only finding out his ex had decided to call it quits when his friends started commenting on the automatic alert that was created when she severed the electronic bond.
What about you? Have you ever dumped someone (or been dumped) through a social networking site? Would you? Why or why not?

Absolutely not. I always make a point to sever a relationship in person, and I would want the same. It’s a matter of respect.

I agree, I’ve been disrespected in this way and it sucks.
Absolutely. It just comes down to respect really. They’ve been a special part of your life for a period, and even if it was casual or things got bad towards the end, it’s simply poor form to do it over something like Facebook, they deserve better, and you’d want better for yourself.
Why not make a simple call or chill out to talk and explain what wasn’t working?
I was just dumped on facebook last week. It sucks.
