What To Do For St. Valentine's Day?

By February 8, 2014

Follow me on:

With only six days to go, I'm getting a lot of questions about St. Valentine's Day. Where should we go? What should we do? What do I do with a gift that I bought in anticipation for February 14th now that we broke up? How do I honor a day of love when I'm not feeling very loving or lovable? And the most asked question of late: How do I meet someone before St. Valentine's Day?

Because of (and to answer) these questions, I'll be blogging lots on the topic in the next few days. For now however, I've posted a What To Do For St. Valentine's Day index. Have I missed anything? Let me know in the comments.

If you want to meet someone, go the online dating route, but make sure that your profile stands out from the others!

Valentines Day seems to be black and white: either people love it or hate it. I never really understood the people who hate it. One of the most common reasons why someone hates it is how commercialized it is. I agree that it’s extremely commercialized but so is every holiday! Easter is the number one holiday for chocolate sales. This one holiday produces over $400 million in chocolate sales in the United States. People associate Easter more with the Easter Bunny and chocolate eggs than they do with Jesus.

My point is that a holiday designed to be romantic and do something nice for your mate can’t be all bad. Sure you drop a bit of cash into some corporation’s pocket, but who cares? You’re doing something nice for someone. If you’re single: there really isn’t any need to feel depressed or upset because of it. Just act as though the holiday doesn’t exist. Go hang out with friends or do whatever it is that you would normally do.

Valentines Day is designed to show someone how much you care about them. I’m pretty sure making singles feel lonely wasn’t their intention.

It also depends on the place you are. Valentine’s day is celebrated around the world, but in USA is probably overrated by marketing and publicity.
