eHarmony offers complex matchmatchmaking algorithms to all of it's users hoping to find love. Members cannot search for other members anywhere on the site; instead, users fill out a long format questionnaire that matches them with other singles in the area. Focuses on singles looking for marriage or long-term relationships. Fees range from free for limited use, to $59.99 a month.
Match.com
The oldest dating site still in business (Match.com was founded in 1995), it also boasts one of the largest number of users of all dating sites today. Offers a Match Guarantee, and some interesting tie-ins with celebrities such as Dr. Phil. Cost varies from free for limited use to $38 a month with extended features.
Mingle2
A new player on the free dating site market, Mingle2 offers quick signup and a focus on member photos as opposed to long profiles or matchmaking features. Extremely busy dating forum. Free, with an option for paid subscription should users want their profile showing up at the top of search results.
OkCupid
Matchmaking based system, where users and OkCupid staff alike create questions or quizzes. By answering, users then match up with other users based on 'Match', 'Friends' or 'Enemy' percentages. Most flexible site in terms of stating and matching relationship status, gender and sexual orientation. Completely free.
Zoosk
Zoosk started off as a Facebook app in 2007, then morphed into a separate dating site that connects users through most of the big social networking sites and smart phone applications. Lighting-quick signup focuses on user photos and the under 40 set. Free for limited use, with monthly paid subscriptions ranging from $9.99 to $29.99.
