The standard free dating site list of features applies over at Down To Earth, including the options to block other users, deactivate (but not erase) one's profile, the ability to create a favorites list, sending 'flirts', upload and view other users' photos, email and search. The search options are especially robust, although I found the drop down boxes a bit slow on my Vista Home/Firefox system. One can search for others based on their age, sexual orientation (although there was no option for bisexual or transgendered singles), geography, most recent user, photo count, accuracy rating and newest user.

I did not find any other methods of communicating with users on Down To Earth, such as chat, instant messaging, or video chat, although every user has access to their own little Black Book, which houses a list of every member they've contacted.

Down To Earth has created their own patented system to weed out faker profiles and photos through a system they've dubbed RealRatings. Essentially, users rate other users based on how accurately they described themselves in their free dating site profile, which then affects your Accuracy Rating, which is displayed on everyone's profile prominently. The concept, while a good one, can't be tested in the real world until the site garners more users. The Bottom Line

Down To Earth has potential. Its got financial backing from one of the biggest dating sites in the world, plus some nifty features and a slick interface. I did find a couple of interesting quirks when visiting the site, most notably during my search, which initially gave me a list of women across the US looking for a man, even though I'd listed myself as a heterosexual female.

Until Down To Earth attracts more users however, there's no way of telling how or if the site will deliver on its promises. For instance: when I signed up I was told, "Looks like you're the first in your area to our new site. Thanks for being a trendsetter. If you come back in a little while, we should have some matches for you." Hopefully in a few months, they will.
