A combination of matchmaking and free dating site, Engage offers its users an unusual way of connecting with a potential mate - via their friends. Think of it as the Facebook or MySpace for singles, and you'll start to get the idea. But Engage is one of those sites that has to be experienced for full appreciation, and since its a free dating site with a quick sign up, it is well worth checking out.

Overview From Engage

"Engage was founded in 2005. Our goal? Make it as easy to meet new people and explore an attraction online as it is to discover someone new at a trusted friends party, out in the real world." - From Engage.com's About Us Page, July 2008.

What A Membership At Engage Includes

The concept of Engage is simple: ask your friends to join the site (whether they are single, married or somewhere in between). Then, ask them to refer their friends to you to date. Its a new twist on the blind date, in that you'll actually know this time who your friends are trying to set you up with.

Unfortunately, Engage seems to be having sign up issues at the moment; neither I nor any of the people I asked to take a peek at the site for me were able to open an account. If you were able to get into Engage, please send me an email at dating.guide@about.com with the details.

Unique Features of Engage

The nature of Engage is what makes it different from most free dating sites. Not quite matchmaking (in that there are no lengthy questionnaires to fill out or interviews to sit through) and not just social networking, Engage offers its users a less frightening way of meeting new people to potentially date than, say, asking your friends outright, "Hey, want to set me up on a blind date?"
