Formulate an Explanation for the Breakup

By , About.com Guide

Eventually, you are going to have to answer questions from friends and family as to what happened to your relationship. Since there isn’t a lot that the outside world really needs to know, your focus right now should be to create a short, three to five word breakup explanation, and then practice it until you can say it without emotion.

Why only three to five words? Three words are more than enough for anyone who asks what happened, although they serve more than just that one purpose. These three words will also become your personal positive affirmation that you are no longer a part of a couple.

Some simple suggestions:

  • "He broke up with me."
  • "She ended the relationship."
