Intelligent Dating Network is a somewhat bare bones site in that it isn't terribly beautiful to look at, although there are no advertisements to be found. Yet the functionality is fairly robust, in that users have a wide variety of options to search and contact members, like most dating sites today. Freebie members have their run of the site as well, although they are unable to contact other free members.

Intelligent Dating Network's search features are surprisingly good and varied, offering choices I've yet to find anywhere else, such as searching by:

• Most recently updated profiles;
• People who have received the most (or least) First Messages viewed first;
• Members who accept different facets of what you've stated in your profile, such as members who accept smokers, single parents or drinkers; and
• Importance of Religion

All members, regardless of whether or not they've paid to use the Intelligent Dating Network, have their own little Black Book, similar to many other dating sites' saved searched, but with extra sorting features.

Gold (paid) members also have the option of hiding their profile from freebie users, can contact anyone on the network via email, and are required to have a background check performed on them, paid for by the Intelligent Dating Network.

All Gold Circle members have had a criminal record check performed on them, although Intelligent Dating Network does not guarantee that all of their Gold Circle users "are who they claim to be".

All members are subject to identity confirmation and must "answer at least half the profile questions in both sections of the profile questionnaire" before interacting with other Intelligent Dating Network users. Because of this, the sign up process can be a bit lengthy; it took me approximately 20 minutes to get through all of the required questions, although some of the 'check box questions' (where users check options they agree with to automatically have them listed) were definite time savers.

As well, Intelligent Dating Network requires that all of its users are US citizens for the past five years (with exceptions for military personnel), are unmarried (and have no compunction contacting your spouse should you be on their service), and over the age of 18, although some of their 'communities' require you to be 21 and over.

A Gold membership costs $59 USD a year, payable by Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover.

The Bottom Line

There were few members in my area when I signed up for the Intelligent Dating Network, and it was obvious as soon as I made it through the process. However, the site didn't gloss over this fact, letting me know it might be better to stick with a free membership for now, choosing instead to smile at the men I was interested in. One of these notes was even on the sign up page; I found the honesty highly refreshing. The site also housed members much older than I was expecting, with the average age being 40+. So although I might not recommend the Intelligent Dating Network as a must-see dating site, I would suggest it to those who are looking to expand their social circle in the 40+ age range, without signing up for a Gold Circle membership initially.
