The Family Stone (Buy Direct) isn't your typical romantic movie, although it is most definitely one that focuses on Christmas. Meredith Morton (Sarah Jessica Parker) meets her boyfriends' (Dermot Mulroney) parents (Diane Keaton, Craig T. Nelson) for the first time at Christmas, but the event doesn't go as she'd planned. From one mishap to another, the family sticks together in their dislike for Morton, while still working through their myriad of challenging and unusual issues. Eventually Morton calls her sister (Claire Danes) to come over and make her feel more at home, but that's when all hell breaks loose.
There are several touching moments in The Family Stone, and I personally can't watch the end without shedding several tears. Separate from its very full plot and rich characters, its a wonderfully romantic holiday movie, getting viewers to both get excited and surprised at the plot twists, as well as slowing down to appreciate the small things.
How To Turn These Romantic Movie Moments Into Real-Life Romance
- Focus on the little things together, the ones that you'll remember for years to come -- like watching the snow fall hand-in-hand or creating new holiday traditions together;
- Take a photo of your sweetie's childhood that you know they love, and have it blown up and framed.
