My Review

I suggest that you do a bit of research before signing-up with Ashley Madison. I didn’t and have been sucked in.

The site supposedly helps people get together for affairs. Most of the women’s profiles appear to be fakes – and it seems they have even written their terms and conditions to allow this – calling the fake profiles “Market Research”.

Strange that all of the messages that I have received were sent at 1.30am to 2.30am (Australia time) – an unlikely time for everybody on the site to be active – but probably fairly convenient if you are in Canada where the company is based

More worrying is that they retain your credit card details and then automatically “top-up” your account when you run low on credits. In my case their ‘top-up” was for twice as much as my initial legitimate charge.

The system is also set up to chew through your credits as quickly as possible. When you send a message the settings default to a “Priority mail” setting which doubles the number of credits that it charges. You have to remember to uncheck this box with every message.

My research (too late and after signing up) suggests that they also scam the IM chat sessions. They charge a set number of credits for 30 minutes or 60 minutes of chat. When you start a session the (fake) person that you are chatting to suddenly goes quiet until the last minute or two.

I haven’t experienced this directly but I have found that all of the people that interested me had set their profiles to “This user is not willing to chat at the moment” even when they were supposedly online. (This is a system setting – you get this message even before contacting them so it is not a matter of them seeing my profile and not wanting to chat with me)

In summary – this site is a complete scam.
