Avian Dating Agency Insights

Wednesday July 11, 2007

When I found this article from Deutsche Welle, I was expecting an online dating site review for a company that specializes in matching up bird lovers. Instead, I learned more about German parrot matchmaker Rita Ohnhäuser, who recently introduced her 2,000th pairing.

Surprisingly, some of the parrots the bird sanctuary owner introduces don't take to each other immediately, contrary to the commonly-held belief that birds mate immediately and for life.

"I don't have to do much other than make the introductions, some birds experience love at first sight, while others make a really careful choice before entering a relationship and need to be talked into it with a complicated courtship," Ohnhäuser said.
I guess birds aren't that different from humans after all when it comes to dating.
