Plenty of Fish

Plenty of Fish
Although Plenty of Fish isn't a beautiful site, it is functional and extremely effective. Most of the features are still free, although this is changing as of March 2009 and December 2010. Some features now require payment to access, but the costs aren't expensive, nor do the features prohibit contacting other members. Find out why people love POF, and share your own thoughts about the biggest free dating site in the world.

Overview from Plenty of Fish

"I created plentyoffish.com because I was tired of seeing faceless corporate dating sites preying on singles. Finding love is not about handing over a monthly fee to a dating site that only cares about making sure you stay another month to pay them again." ~2007 from POF.com

What a Plenty of Fish Membership Includes

With one of the fastest sign ups possible (most questions can be deferred for later), Plenty of Fish offers all of its features at no cost to the user whatsoever, including instant messaging, smiles, compatibility testing and matching, general dating and geographic forums and a hot or not photo rating system. Plenty of Fish users can also see who has looked at their profile (although now for a fee as of December 2010), ban certain types of users from contacting them (such as from certain regions of the world or people only looking for sex), and add people to their personal favorites list.

Unique Features of Plenty of Fish

One of the best features of Plenty of Fish are the forums. In fact, it doesn't take a browsing single long to run across a profile that proudly exclaims, "Just here for the forums!" Ranging in topic from dealing with a broken heart to non-dating related debates, the Plenty of Fish forums are an excellent way of 'meeting' people virtually. Plus, many Plenty of Fish members take it upon themselves to organize events and meet & greets for everyone to attend, and the place to find such events are in the forums.

Other unusual features at Plenty of Fish include a list of "who loves me" (those who have added you to their favorites), a search for members by the University they previously attended, and the who you'll marry feature.

Plenty of Fish Membership Costs

There are no costs or fees to join Plenty of Fish. However, Plenty of Fish does charge fees for certain features now:

  • 'Get Serious' by having your dating profile show up prominently in search results (Pay To Get Serious at Plenty of Fish);
  • Buy Credits and you'll be able to see the status of your sent emails (read deleted, not read, etc.), purchase POF gifts, and "break the ice creatively"". Cost? $10.45 Canadian including GST for 100 credits, $19.90 for 215 credits, and $39.85 for 500 credits. Plenty of Fish Charging User Fees?

Not a good site to find long term relationships, Member happyending19

Please note: Message is for long term/committed relationship seekers on POF: How many people including yourself know of a successful long term relationship that comes out from POF? Let's set the common measurement of success as a committed couple that has gone out together for more than 1 or more years or engaged or married. If the answer is ""NO"", stop the search of your Prince Charming or Princess Beautiful on PoF and go back to the traditional ways where true love and the successful cases were found. For non-believers, good luck keep trying and hope you are the lucky one that goes against all odds. Don't say this message didn't warn you already if you were hurt, cheated and used.
